We recently had an intern from Kennewick High School visit our team. For 2 weeks, Marc Long joined our staff and learned quite a bit about web development for an advanced class he will be teaching in the next school year. We were happy to be working with those who will shape the minds of future web developers. Below is a note from Marc:

Craig,

Thank you so much for allowing me to do this short summer internship with Ikon Marketing Group. It has been two weeks full of rich learning experiences that I will carry back to my classroom.

I enjoy teaching computer science to students, but I have always felt my computer science knowledge was somewhat disconnected from the world of web design. These two short weeks have helped me connect the dots. This has been a “real world” experience that will guide me as I create curriculum for my students.

I now feel I have a better understanding of HTML, web design layout, CSS, Javascript, PHP and SQL. I know our school will use CS3 as a design tool, but I now have a new set of tools I will use with my second year web design students. I will teach students how to install and configure XAMPP; the foundation of a professional developer’s environment. Students will be expected to use PSPad as an editing tool and debug with Firebug as they create their web sites. It will be fun to challenge second year students to learn Javascript, PHP, and SQL. Students will be encouraged to research and learn key web design concepts using sites such as W3Schools.

I believe you have created a great work environment. Your team of developers have provided awesome support and encouragement to me. I am most impressed with how your staff works together in a cooperative spirit.

A special thanks to Doug, Leland, and Joe for allowing me to ask questions and always presenting well thought out answers.

Thanks again!

Marc Long
